Posters, doubling as Flyers created for a group exhibition showcasing the work of some of today’s best contemporary artists and celebrating figures that have inspired the gay community over the years.
Graffik Gallery commissioned some of today’s best emerging and established artists – gay and straight – and produce portraits of people who they believe have been an inspiration to today’s gay community. Portraits of such figures as Marlon Brando, Michelangelo, Marilyn Monroe and Joan Collins serve as triggers of memory for both artist and audience.
Francis Taloen, curator of ‘Gaze’ said: “Gaze aims to reach beyond the gay community by getting together gay and straight artists from all walks of life and styles – from traditional portraiture to graffiti, glass and multimedia – while also challenging people’s perception of what actually makes a gay icon. The artists’ work investigates the cycles of life, notions of time and change and transition in today’s disposable society. – Taking inspiration from movies, record covers and popular culture in general, Gaze will showcase contemporary British art its best.“
You see the Private View Poster/Flyer where all the artists will be in attendance. The exhibition run at www.the-collection.co.uk until 12 March 2012 before it moved to Graffik Gallery at 284 Portobello Road, W10 5TE.
